[7:2]  1 tn Heb “he built.”

[7:2]  2 sn The Palace of the Lebanon Forest. This name was appropriate because of the large amount of cedar, undoubtedly brought from Lebanon, used in its construction. The cedar pillars in the palace must have given it the appearance of a forest.

[7:2]  3 tn Heb “one hundred cubits.”

[7:2]  4 tn Heb “fifty cubits.”

[7:2]  5 tn Heb “thirty cubits.”

[7:8]  6 tn Heb “and his house where he lived, the other court [i.e., as opposed to the great court], separated from the house belonging to the hall, was like this work [i.e., this style of architecture].”

[7:8]  7 tn Heb “and a house he was making for the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Solomon had taken, like this porch.”

[8:16]  8 tn Heb “saying.”

[8:16]  9 tn Heb “to build a house for my name to be there.”

[8:16]  sn To build a temple in which to live (Heb “to build a house for my name to be there”). In the OT, the word “name” sometimes refers to one’s reputation or honor. The “name” of the Lord sometimes designates the Lord himself, being indistinguishable from the proper name.

[8:29]  10 tn Heb “so your eyes might be open toward this house night and day, toward the place about which you said, ‘My name will be there.’”

[8:29]  11 tn Heb “by listening to the prayer which your servant is praying concerning this place.”

[8:37]  12 tn Actually two Hebrew terms appear here, both of which are usually taken as referring to locusts. Perhaps different stages of growth or different varieties are in view.

[8:37]  13 tn Heb “in the land, his gates.”

[8:65]  14 tn Or “the Wadi of Egypt” (NAB, NIV, NRSV); CEV “the Egyptian Gorge.”

[8:65]  15 tn Heb “Solomon held at that time the festival, and all Israel was with him, a great assembly from Lebo Hamath to the Brook of Egypt, before the Lord our God for seven days and seven days, fourteen days.”

[20:23]  16 tn Or “servants.”
